Basil is a herb within the mint family with a very strong fragrance and intense green leaves the name basil comes from the Greek word for ‘King.’ The oils from it are said to have antibiotic and anti fungal properties. It is also said to bring good luck when given to someone as a gift for moving into a new residence and if a leaf is carried in the pocket it will attract money. In the Mediterranean, it is thought to purify a home when scattered on the floor. Keeping a plant in the house is said to ward off harmful spells. Finally by soaking it in water for 3 days then sprinkling it on the threshold of a business, it is said to increase customers and prevent theft.
