Witchy Wednesdays - Narcissus (Daffodil)

Narcissus otherwise known as daffodil is a well known perennial plant of the Amaryllidaceae family. It is very identifiable with its large yellow and sometimes cream or orange flowers atop a long stalk native to Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia. They grow from a bulb like root system and are well-known for being hardy, returning year after year. It is said that this is the flower that distracted Persephone allowing Hades to abduct her. It has been said that if you spot the first daffodil of the season, you will have a prosperous year. Daffodils blooming at the lunar New Year foretell good luck for the coming year.A single daffodil blooming alone, however, portends misfortune. Daffodils are the birth flower for the month of March and the Tenth wedding anniversary flower. Magickally if you gather a bouquet together and place them in the bedroom they will increase fertility and can be used as an offering on the altar for any ritual involving the coming of spring. Extracts of narcissus are used by the medical industry to create drugs used to treat Alzheimer's disease in Europe.
