"Freyja is the most renowned of the goddesses; she has in heaven the dwelling called Fólkvangr, and where so ever she rides to the strife, she has one-half of the kill, and Odin half ." - Prose Edda
The Name Freyja Means ‘Lady.’ Although originally a Vanir Goddess, she is now an honorary member of the Aesir Gods, after being given to them at the conclusion of the Aesir-Vanir war along with her Twin brother Freyr. Her father is the Vanir God Njordr and her mother is the sister wife of his Nerthus. She is the wife to Odr, a seldom mentioned Vanir God. Her two daughters are Hnoss and Gersemi.
She resides in her hall Sessrumnir which means ‘Seat room,’which stands on the field of Folkvangr the ‘Field of the Host’ in the realm of Vanaheimr where her chosen half of all honoured dead go and reside with her. She is often accompanied by her boar Hildisvini the ‘Battle Swine,’ and her chariot is pulled by her two cats Bygul ‘Bee gold’ and Trjegul ‘Tree gold.’ A reference possibly to Honey and Amber.
Like her brother she is the owner of two magickal artefacts, the first is a cloak of falcon feathers which gives the wearer the ability of flight and the second being the ‘Gleaming Torc,’ Brisingamen, which Thor later borrows when he attends the wedding in Jotunheimr in her place. She is also one of the survivors of Ragnarok
