Freyja’s Fridays - Viking Swords
Freyja’s Fridays - Viking Swords When people think of the Norsemen they often think of them using great big axes to slaughter their foes, this is only half true. A viking’s most prized weapon was in fact the sword, or in their native tongue a ‘Sverd.’ They would often be so highly prized they would be passed down through generations of a family and they would even name them and no not like Brian or David, but names such as Leggbir meaning Leg biter or Gunnlogi, flame of battle. They would also decorate the hilts with runes to give them aid in battle. It was also said that if a Viking swore an oath upon his sword and then broke the oath, his sword would fail him in battle.
