Witchy Wednesdays - Motherwort Motherwort is a distinguishable member of the mint family of plants. It grows on a single, tall square stem decorated from top to bottom with opposite leaves. The leaf shape varies somewhat by location, but are generally lobed and palmate. It is a plant native to Europe can also be found in the Americas. It has been highly associated with long life An old legend states that there was once a town whose spring ran through a patch of Motherwort. All the local townspeople got their daily drinking water from that spring and all of them lived to be over 100 years old. It was used by the Greeks to soothe anxiety of a pregnant woman, and traditional herbalists use is as for hysterical conditions. In magick, smoking Motherwort can be used to help with Astral projection however too much of this and it can cause respiratory arrest. It is also used for counter-magic and associated with immortality and spiritual healing. For people practising the Norse way it is useful in rituals involving Freyja.For the protection of the family and to have peace in the home, brew Motherwort herb into a tea, strain it, and put the liquid into the bath or in the rinse water when doing the laundry.Place around the home or above doorways to keep away evil spirits and other unwelcome guests. Used in a Witch Bottle it can be used to protect from or to reverse a curse.  Many women swear by Motherwort tea as a treatment for cramps, bloating and irritability associated with PMS and hot flashes. It is also used in cases where a woman's cycle is disturbed due to stress.For an effective tincture Use 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in 1 cup of boiling water no more than twice per day or up to 1 teaspoon of tincture per day. The tea can be very bitter so use honey to give it a sweeter taste. #witch #magick #motherwort
