Witchy Wednesdays - Evening Primrose

Witchy Wednesdays - Evening Primrose Evening Primose is a small wildflower also known as Kings Cure all. It is native to North America and it grows from a size of 12 inches to around 59 inches with the flower head being around 2 inches in size. The leaves are quite broad and spiral around the stem and the flower itself is a lovely lemon yellow in colour. It tends to bloom in the late afternoon giving it its name. The whole plant and especially the leaves were boiled to tea by Native American tribes as a stimulant to treat laziness and against “over fatness”. The tribes also used the roots externally to treat piles and boils. Additionally, they were chewed and rubbed onto the muscles to improve strength. Virtually all plant parts are edible. In general, the taste of the plant is mild but sometimes there can be a rough aftertaste. The roots can be eaten raw or cooked like potatoes and the leaves can be eaten raw in place of or alongside spinach. The oil may also be used topically to treat skin irritations such as eczema and rosacea and to encourage hair growth and it is recommended that capsules be taken internally to support this treatment as well. Magickally Eliphas Levi recommended evening primrose to decorate altars for moon ceremonies. Evening primrose is also used in magick related to hunting and success in achieving one's goals. Use in ritual baths to increase inner beauty & desirability. It is also a fairy plant, from which it is said the Fae collect dew to make potions and therefore having some around will attract Faeries to you.
