Freyja’s Fridays - Viking Mead

Freyja’s Fridays - Viking Mead One of things Vikings loved to drink was Mead, or in Old Norse, Mjod so I thought I would share a simple recipe for honey mead you can try for yourselves, not exactly traditional method but really close… Half fill a pot with water and bring to a simmer over a medium heat Add in Honey Don’t let it boil but stir until honey is dissolved and turn off heat Add in any fruit or herbs or flavourings and stir Further In a separate jug pour in the honey mixture and top up with water leaving a bit of room at the top for a head Add in 1/2 packet of yeast when the mead is at room temperature and cap or cork the jug Shake it up for a few Minutes Leave it for 6 weeks in a cool but not cold place, A foamy head will appear then settle Once the bubbles are gone it is ready to drink SKOL
